Booster Gold / Blue Beetle To Die In “Suicide Squad” Crossover

Fan favorite characters Booster Gold and Blue Beetle, the favorite heterosexual lifemate couple of the pre-52 universe, have been slated to die in an upcoming Suicide Squad and Blue Beetle crossover “Suicide Pact”. Booster Gold who was previous featured in Justice League International, now cancelled, will be forced onto the Suicide Squad by Amanda Waller for an unknown crime and the team will be sent after Blue Beetle.

Writer Adam Glass on twitter commented “I really want to try and make something that hasn’t been done before. I mean, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle used to be friends but that’s weird. I mean what kind of thirty year old is friends with a high schooler – so I started to think if they won’t be friends, they’ll be enemies. It is an either or thing.”

When Glass was asked about fan reaction he candidly replied “No matter what happens, some people are going to be angry. I’d rather try not to cater to fans who want me to tell the same stories and use characters the same way. It isn’t working for titles that are doing that – I mean Booster Gold had a fanbase but not enough of one to keep a title! That means that the fans need something else to pull them in and get them interested in the character and I believe having fan favorite characters as enemies might do that. Haters to the left.”

Haters to the left indeed.

This cover is interesting to me, simply because it took me a few looks to figure out that fleshy, goo-ish blob is actually a person unmasking. I don’t know why their creative team chose to portray the unmasking in the form of sculpted ground meat, but it’s their decision, so who am I to question them.

Their tagline is incorrect, because to believe or not, I’d really have to care first.

Oy gevalt. So far in Suicide Squad, Amanda Waller’s characterization has been weak and pathetic, which has amounted to a major annoyance but not much more. This issue was CHARACTERIZATION BRUTALIZATION for our Waller, and baby, does it hurt.

In related news, I wish the covers would stop showcasing Harley so hard, especially since she’s no longer the focus after that terrible escapee arc.

Reviewicide Squad: Suicide Squad Issue #10

This issue, I decided that the only character I like is King Shark. Mostly because he only gets two words per issue, and they only have to do with eating things/people.

The cover this time around is mostly inoffensive, but absolutely atrocious. Every inch of his body is rippling with muscles, probably in an attempt to stop him from falling over backwards in an attempt to keep that ridiculous pose.
It also kind of looks like the Squad is falling from the moon for whatever reason.

It’s kinda ugly (which is hardly a departure from the norm), but there’s really nothing otherwise noteworthy about it.

Except maybe King Shark’s face.

Suicide Squad Issue #8 Review

I skipped issue seven, so here’s a basic recap:

Glass further desecrated Harley’s origin story, Savant sounded like an idiot in every piece of dialog, and Lime dies for basically the stupidest reason.
No I mean really, she gets grazed by a bullet, and instead of running away, she gives herself up to the cops…. And then, despite multiple warnings by Waller, she starts telling the cops about Task Force X. So Waller makes her head explode.
