Shulkin’ With Savage She-Hulk #4

Dan Slott’s She-Hulk run was one of the first comics I completely read. It is a lot of fun but I decided to give the original shot a try. I know Byrne’s run is really were regarded and that the character was created for copyright purposes but how is the actual comic? I decided to check it out. This time – issue 4 of Savage She-Hulk – My Father..My Foe!

Oh god, she killed The Creeper!

So you start off with Jenn holding the decapitated head of that Stark robot that Trask sent after her and it gets crazier after that. Also on a side note, Jenn has to just have an entire close of white gowns that she has just so she can rip them up. And while she is being badass she swears to get Trask.

he’s wearing plain white sneaker too? jeeze Zapper

But first Never-Nude Freddie Mercury, aka Zapper is worried about Jenn (not Jenn, She-Hulk) so she threatens him to stay away until Zapper is like “the cops would never look for She-Hulk in a car – which makes me thing – have we ever seen Hulk driving a car? Like the normal Hulk crunched into a Beetle or a convertible. “Wesson, was that the Hulk in that minivan?” “Nah, everyone knows Hulk don’t drive Officer Sundae.”

But it turns out that Trask, not the mutant killer, was able to somewhat listen to the conversation. We don’t know if he gets sound or what from the robot head but if he does, I have no idea how he isn’t putting She-Hulk’s identity together yet. But he has a plan – and it involves Sheriff Walters.

Confused and misinformed justice!

The Sheriff don’t like it that She-Hulk presumably killed his daughters – and here is some dickery. Zapper’s parents know that Jenn is still alive. They are not telling him while the Sheriff is planning to go full Ahab on She-Hulk. They could trust the Sheriff to keep a secret.

“Steranko Architecture did a hell of a job on this place. I don’t know what half these things are here for.”

But it doesn’t work so when the Sheriff gets into his apparently chauffeured car, Trask’s man abducts him and brings him to his Kirby-esqe base with an offer – an offer to kill She-Hulk with a laser cannon. And not just any laser cannon but one of those Batman action figure ones! And Trask’s man shoots it at Monkton – who is wearing a pretty baller suit.

Also this is a sad issue for Trask since his snakes stay in the cage this time and don’t even get a focus panel. Dropping the ball Trask!

Jenn and Zapper – seriously Zapper is his nickname? show up and Zapper gets left behind as She-Hulk decides to just bust in to kick ass and take names.

Dudes just wanna shoot laser cannons. Monkton got shot by one, he deserves a chance!

Monkton and the Sheiff argue about who gets the chest mounted cannon before the Sheriff just takes it for revenge – unaware that it is rigged to explode.

Meanwhile Zapper teamed up with Buck “Lego Head Sunglasses” Bukowski and the run in to try and solve everything.

He’s like some kind of… He-Hulk!

The Sheriff finds She-Hulk, Zapper tries to stop the Sheriff but She-Hulk saves her dad from the exploding gun. You see, it turns out that Trask did figure out Jenn is She-Hulk so he gets the irony – and the weapon itself is powered with emotions and drives the user mad. Dodged a laser there. But Monkton has just been introduced to Trask’s new secret project – I bet it will kill him, also part of me is expecting a Sentinel.

And then with the emotion cannon destroyed and She-Hulk’s name cleared and Zapper turning inexplicably black, Jenn reveals she is alive on TV and her dad runs straight from the hospital to see her.

Next issue of Savage She-Hulk!
