Pharaoh and Ibis Chapter 2

A few months ago on a whim I ended up writing Pharaoh and Ibis, an ages adventure/superhero novel that I posted to tumblr. Tumblr is a horrible tool to publish books so as I edit the book I’ll be doing a serialization of the book on here, possibly with illustrations. When the first book is done I’ll start writing or posting the second one. Simple as that.
Updates will be Tuesdays or any other weekdays that we need content. I hope you enjoy this journey that begins after the bump.

Chapter 2: Alone

The wristwatch began beeping repeatedly. Kevin Canyon opened his eyes to find the room colder than it had been the night before. Kevin quickly looked around the abandoned apartment that was his latest home. The bare drywall did a fine enough job keeping out the cold. Unfortunately, it did nothing to prevent other animals from moving in.
Kevin climbed out of his sleeping bag and shook off the insects that were crawling across it onto the cold floor. As he shuddered from the cold, he began packing up the mummy bag. and worn pillow into his threadbare backpack.
He looked around checking that he had his few possessions with him. Then he carefully walked out into the hallway and stopped by the boarded up window. The streets were still empty at 6:30 and Kevin snuck out behind the back of the building and headed out into the alley. He nonchalantly sauntered onto the main road pretending to be like any other kid in the city heading to school and kept walking forward.
Three blocks down he turned down the alley where Dean sat outside the back smoking a cigarette.
“Hey Dean,” said Kevin, walking up. “Any good leftovers today?”
Dean threw down his cigarette into the snow that had just started to fall on the unseasonably cold winter April morning. “Hold on kid, we have something real good for you today.”
Dean walked into the back of the bakery where the smell of fresh bread came out and wrapped Kevin like a blanket. Suddenly the sound of footsteps in the alley caused Kevin to turn around. A woman in a sharp business suit and John, the man who owned the bakery started walking towards Kevin.
Kevin dodged and swerved through the bakery, unable to grab anything. Dean and John started to chase after while the woman with the business suit simply waited and typed something into her phone.
As he continued to run the cold suddenly hit Kevin. He noticed he was leaving footprints in the snow. The only footprints in the snow so far. He looked both ways and then ran to the park.
