Capullo really should have done all the Death Of The Family covers. It would have allowed him to put some sort of recurring motif or conceptual continuity across them. It also would have prevented that whole “Batgirl cover blows that the new Joker is basically the old Joker with his face Mankinded on” thing.

This is kind of a clever way to do the whole “villain and hero playin chess with the city on the line” kind of thing, but the whole chess thing is kind of undercut by the sheer laziness of having the city just sort of placed on top of a normal chessboard. It could have had them using buildings as chess pieces, with Wayne Tower standing out, to really show a threat. Cred where cred’s due, though, I do like the design for Scarecrow here.
